Double Click on Drive does not open

We all have experienced someday or the other, this problem of Windows XP in which when we double click on the drive it does not open or some dialog box opens up but notthe drive. Yes, you know it right; the problem is caused by some virus activity and if you don’t know

how to open this, here is the fix (just make sure that the virus has been removed, else the problem will persist):

When the problem happens, it means that there is a file named “Autorun.inf” in the root drive, but you will not be able to view it as it is a system file. This file is rarely caught by the anti virus. This file makes sure to run the virus and infect your system. This is the file which is responsible to run the dialog box that appears on autoplay. So this is a useless file for sure.

Common sense says to delete this file but even that is not easy as it possesses system, hidden and read only attributes. So,

1.    First go to cmd, type “attrib X:\Autorun.inf –s –r –h” without quotes where X is your drive name which is having the problem.

2.    Now the file is visible and ready to delete.

3.    After deleting the file, close the explorer and open it again or just give a reboot to the computer, your problem is fixed.

Well this is the best and easy fix available without using any software.

Enable the Registry Editor, Task Manager and Folder Options Disabled by Virus

Virus attack is common these days and we often come across the problems like Disabled Folder Options or like Task Manager and Regedit disabled by Administrator. These problems are nothing but virus activities. The virus has infected our system and stopping us from accessing these options.

Pressing keys Ctrl+Alt+Del opens up a dialog saying that “Task Manager has been disabled by your Administrator” whereas you are the Administrator yourself. It becomes very annoying when you think that you can fix this problem by going into the Registry Editor but it doesn’t show up. Even the Folder Options gets disabled.

This problem is generally caused by a virus named “Brontok” but don’t worry just useRRT (Remove Restrictions Tool) that can easily solve this problem. RRT is free and can successfully enable:

1.    Folder Options

2.    Regedit (Registry Editor)

3.    Task Manager

4.    Show Hidden Files option

The tool will come more useful if you use it in Safe Mode.

Solution to No Desktop, Taskbar and Icons at Startup Problem

We must have seen this problem some or the other day that when we boot our computer our desktop, taskbar and wallpaper do not appear.

This was the problem of one of our readers and here is the solution of the problem with detailed information of the cause.

This is the case of the Explorer startup problem and is caused sue to the unconditional termination of F-Nimda tool during its operation. If F-Nimda tool is terminated by a user or operating system while it is scanning a hard disk, there will be no icons and no taskbar on Windows desktop.

Solution:

1.    Just download a zip file called from here and unzip it.

2.    Double click the reg file named “SHELLFIX.REG” and click OK to import it in the registry settings.

Reboot may be required and this would have solved the problem

[Solved] CD Drive not Detected

There may be a case that your CD/DVD drive is ejecting properly but it is not showing up in the My Computer. This was the problem with one of our readers and here are the solutions for that.

Solution 1:

•    First ensure that your device is enabled from the Device Manager.

•    Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab and then click on Device Manager.

•    Find your CD Drive and if it has a red cross on the icon just right click and click “Enable”.

Solution 2:

If the CD drive is enabled then perform following steps:

1.    Open registry Editor and go to the keyHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

2.    Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

3.    Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

4.    Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Solution 3:

Make sure that your IDE cable inside the CPU are attached properly and not broken. This is also one of the reasons for the problem.

Well, let’s face it; most of the Googlers do not know what the “I’m Feeling Lucky " Button is and what is it doing on the Google Homepage.

What is I’m Feeling Lucky Button?

To get the facts right, the Button takes us automatically to the first search result for the query we have searched about. Ordinarily for the search query, Google returns the list of matched results out of which we select the link that suits us the most but the I’m Feeling Lucky button skips the search results page and goes directly to the first ranked page for that search phrase.

How to use it?

For the search phrase that is most obvious say to download Firefox we type “download Firefox” instead of searching usually, if we press the I’m Feeling Lucky Button we will be redirected to the page that will give us the download link.

Some more facts

Google loses around $110 million in annual revenue from this button alone due to the fact that this button prevents it from showing the ads, then why are they still providing this link?
